How to Adjust Movie Symbol, Text or Button Color Using the Flash Adjust Color Filter

Adjusting the color of a button, movie or text object over time is simple with the Adjust Color Filter.

The filter is applied at frame one, then copied to a second frame where it is altered. A tween is added and the color changes over time.

Step One

Add a rectangular object to the workspace with the Rectangle tool (r key).

Step Two

Select the rectangle and convert it to a Movie Symbol (Modify > Convert to Symbol (F8)).

Step Three

With the rectangle Movie Symbol still selected, open the Filters panel by clicking the Filters tab (Window > Properties > Filters).

Step Four

Add a filter to the Filter panel by clicking the plus (+) icon and selecting Adjust Color from the pull-down menu.

Step Five

Move the sliders to adjust the color.

Changing Color Over Time

Follow these steps and add a second keyframe with a Motion Tween. Adjust the Filter settings at both keyframes to create your desired effect.

Filters and Flash Player Versions

Filters work with Flash Player 8 and greater.
