How to Scale and Move Flash Objects Over Time

This effect requires that you start with a Drawing Object or a Symbol.

Step One

Add a rectangular object to the workspace with the Rectangle tool (r key).

Step Two

With the rectangle selected, choose Insert > Timeline Effects > Effects > Expand.

Step Three

In the dialog box, input values for the Effect Duration, then select Expand, Squeeze or Both.

Step Four

Click the Update Preview button to see the changes before accepting your animation.

Step Five

Click the direction icons to select the Direction of Movement.

Step Six

You can also set the Shift Group Center, Fragment Offset, and Change Fragment Size values.

Step Seven

Once you are satisfied, click OK. A new symbol is added to the workspace.

Constant Velocity Animations

The timeline effects occur with constant velocity motion. Once you have added the effect, you can edit the symbol and change the ease settings to create a more realistic movement.
