Adding a Guide Layer
Flash CS4 Tutorial
How to Exclude Layer Content from Published swf File
Guide layers are handy for content that you wish to see during the authoring stage, but not be included in the final swf file. For example, you may have a template that shows the placement of your stage assets.
Guide layers can also be used to troubleshoot flaky contents on a layer. If you suspect a problem with the contents on a specific layer, convert it to a Guide layer and re-render your movie.
In a new Flash document, add a new layer. Name the top layer Content and the lower layer Template.
Select the first frame of the Template layer and add a series of boxes with the Rectangle tool (r key).
Click the Lock icon for the Template layer.
Select the first frame of the Content layer and add a series of circles inside the boxes with the Oval tool (o key).
Right-click the Template layer name and choose Guide from the menu.
Publish your movie by pressing Cmd/Return (PC - Ctrl/Enter). The oval shapes appear. The Guide layer rectangles are not included in the swf file.
