How to Create a New Scene in Flash

Using Scenes to organize your animation is a great way to break the project into multiple smaller pieces. Each Scene contains its own timeline.

Published movies play all the Scenes in sequential order. Whenever you open a new Flash document, the default timeline is in Scene 1.

For information on changing the scene playing order, see topic, Changing Scene Order.

In this example we will demonstrate adding a second Scene to your project.

Step One

In a new Flash document add an object to the stage.

Step Two

Click frame 10 of the default layer and press F5 to extend the content.

Step Three

Choose Window > Other Panels > Scene to open the Scene panel.

Step Four

Click the Add Scene icon to create a new Scene.

Step Five

Double-click the scene name to change its name.

Step Six

Return to the main timeline and choose your new scene from the Scene pull-down menu in the upper corner of the stage. The current scene icon updates.

Step Seven

Add an object to the stage of your new scene.

Step Eight

Click frame 10 of the default layer and press F5 to extend the content.

Step Nine

Publish your movie by pressing Cmd/Return (PC - Ctrl/Enter). The Scenes play in the order they appear in the Scene panel.

Which Scene am I Working On?

To see which scene you have open, check the Scene icon in the upper left corner of the stage.
