How to Add Gradient Glow to Movie Symbol, Text or Button using the Gradient Glow Filter in Flash


The Gradient Glow filter is similar to the Glow filter except you set the glow color using the gradient slider.


Step One

Add a rectangular object to the workspace with the Rectangle tool (r key).

Step Two

Select the rectangle and convert it to a Movie Symbol (Modify > Convert to Symbol (F8)).

Step Three

With the rectangle Movie Symbol still selected, open the Filters panel by clicking the Filters tab (Window > Properties + Filters).

Step Four

Add a filter to the Filter panel by clicking the Add Filter icon and selecting Gradient Glow from the pull-down menu.

Step Five

In the dialog box, set the Blur and Strength.

Step Six

Set the Quality to Low, Medium,or High.

Step Seven

The Angle and Distance can also be set.

Step Eight

There are also options for Knockout and Type.

Step Nine

The gradient color is set with the slider boxes.

Edit Filter Effects

Once you add a filter effect, you can access and edit the values by selecting the object and clicking the Filter tab.

Filters and Flash Player Versions

Filters work with Flash Player 8 and greater.

Stacking Filters

To combine the effects of multiple filters, consider adding more than one filter to an object.
