Attach Camera to a Path
Maya 2012 Tutorial
How to Create a Camera Path in Maya
This technique is handy if you want your animated camera to follow a path. The path is defined by a curve drawn in the workspace.
Choose Create > CV Curve Tool and draw a curve in one of the views.
Choose Create > Cameras > Camera to add a camera.
Click the Camera, then shift select the curve and choose Animate > Motion Paths > Attach to Motion Path (under the Animation menu set). Be sure to select the options.
In the options you can set which one of the object's axis will align with the path and which axis is up. You can also set the time range for the animation. Click the Attach button to accept the settings.
Click Play to view the animation.
Viewing Camera Axis
Since the camera is attached to the path based on the axis you select, it is helpful to know which direction each of the camera axis points before you get to Step Four. To view the camera axis, choose the Move tool and select the tool options. In the tool options, click the Object radio button to view the object axis (red = x, green = y, blue = z).
