How to Create an EP Curve in Maya
EP curves are the building blocks for Nurbs objects and surfaces. A curve is essentially a line and does not appear in your rendered image. By starting with a curve, you can build skins, revolved surfaces and lofted objects. EP is short for Edit Points.
Choose Create > EP Curve Tool and select the options.
In the options, select 1 Linear or 3 Cubic. Linear is used for straight lines and Cubic creates rounded shapes. For this example, we selected Cubic.
Click multiple times to define your shape. For closed shapes, leave a gap between your first and last points. Press Enter to accept the curve.
To close the curve, select the curve and choose Edit Curves > Open/Close Curves. Unlike the CV Curve, EP Curves travel through your click points.
Resetting EP Curve Settings
Whenever you create a EP Curve, a new object is created based on the last time the tool was used. To reset the create EP Curve tool to the default values, open it's options and click the Reset Tool button.
Drawing Multiple Lines
Once your add a line and press the Enter key, Maya exits the EP Curve tool. To draw another line, press the y key and the EP Curve tool is re-activated.
