How to Render a Wireframe Image in Maya



In addition to photo-realistic images, Maya is also capable of rendering wireframe images and animations.

To use this feature, you must first enable the VectorRender.bundle plug in in the Plug-in Manager.


Step One

Choose Window > Settings/Preferences > Plug-in Manager.

Step Two

Make sure both checkboxes are selected next to the VectorRender.bundle plug-in and press Refresh.

Step Three

Add a polygon sphere to the workspace by choosing Create > Polygon Primitives > Sphere.

Step Four

Click the Render Settings icon, then choose Render Using: Maya Vector.

Step Five

Click the Maya Vector tab and open the Fill Options section. Deselect the Fill Object checkbox.

Step Six

Open the Edge Options section and click the Include Edges checkbox.

Step Seven

The Edge Color is set by clicking the color rectangle. Set the color to white.

Step Eight

The Edge Weight setting adjusts the line thickness.

Step Nine

Edge Style can be set to Outlines or Entire Mesh.

Step Ten

Click the Render Current Frame icon to see your wireframe image.

Want to See the Hidden Edges?

By default the back edges of the object are not rendered. To show the back edges, select the Hidden Edges checkbox in the Edge Options section.
