How to Render an Image in Maya
Rendered still images from Maya can be saved in several formats. If the alpha channel is enabled, any non-object areas can be quickly selected and removed in Photoshop. The alpha channel appears as channel four in the Photoshop Channel's palette.
To set the final image size and resolution you need to access the render options. Click the Render Settings Window icon.
At the top of the render options dialog box, select the render method (i.e., Maya Software). Under the Common tab, scroll down to set the image format. If you are saving for Photoshop, use tiff. This setting works if you will be rendering using the Batch Render method described in the Rendering a Movie topic.
In the Image Size section, set the image size and resolution. Alpha Channel can be selected in the Renderable Cameras section.
Click the Maya Software tab and set the Quality to Production Quality.
Close the options box and click the Render the Current Frame icon. Once the image is rendered, choose File > Save Image from the render window. Be sure to set the format to Tiff in the save box.
