How to Snap Objects and Points to Maya Grid
The workspace grid is helpful if you are creating geometric shapes or symmetric patterns that follow grid lines. As you draw curves, the points will snap to the grid intersections. As you move objects, the object's pivot point snaps to the grid. If the grid is not visible, choose Display > Grid.
Activate the Snap to Grids feature and select the CV Curve Tool (Create > CV Curve Tool).
Click in the workspace multiple times to draw your shape. Note that the points snap to the grid lines. Press Enter to accept your shape.
Add a primitive cube to the scene (Create > Polygon Primitives > Cube).
Select the Move Tool (w key) and move the cube around the grid. The object's pivot point snaps to the grid.
Turn off the Snap to Grids feature and move the pivot point to a new location by pressing and holding the d key.
With the Move tool selected, re-activate the Snap to Grids feature. Move the object and note that the object's pivot point snaps to the grid.
