How to Access Tool Settings in Maya

The Tool Settings panel becomes active when you press the Tool Settings icon or choose the tool options from a tool menu item. There are several tools found in the Maya interface. Examples of Maya tools include Move, Rotate, Scale, Extrude and Insert Edge Loop.

In this example, we will show how to access the Move tool settings. The process is similar for any of the Maya tools. For tools that are menu items, click the box to the right of the tool name to see the tool options.

Step One

To access the Move tool settings, click the Move tool (w key), then click the Tool Settings icon.

Step Two

Another way to open the Move tool options is to double-click the Move tool.

Step Three

In the Tool Settings panel there are several option categories.

Step Four

To reset a tool, click the Reset button.

Step Five

To close the Tool Settings panel, click the tool panel "x" or click the Tool Settings icon.

Shared Settings

Some of the Tool Settings are shared between tools. For instance, if you activate Reflection for the Move tool, it is also activated for the Rotate and Scale tools.
