Adding Relief Texture
Photoshop CS3 Tutorial
How to Add Relief Texture in Photoshop
Computer generated textures often appear flat and lifeless. By adding shadows, the texture appears to pop off the page.
Open a new blank document in Photoshop (File > New). Set the size to 500 pixels by 500 pixels at 72 ppi.
Set the Foreground and Background colors to compatible hues.
Fill the image with the Foreground color (Edit > Fill + Foreground color or Opt/Delete (PC-Alt/Delete or Backspace).
Choose Filter > Texture > Grain.
Set Intensity to 40 and Contrast to 50. Change the Grain Type to Sprinkles. Click OK.
Choose Filter > Render > Lighting Effects. Set the Light Type to Directional and move the light to the upper left corner.
Set Texture Channel to Red, Green or Blue. This uses the specified channel to create the texture. You can always take a look at the channels to determine which will work best. Click OK.
