Repairing With the Patch Tool
Photoshop CS3 Tutorial
How to Repair Photoshop Images with the Patch Tool
The Patch tool is handy for repairing image flaws. First you define a selection that needs repairing. Then you drag the selection to a source area to make the repair.
Open an image in Photoshop (File > Open) and select the Patch tool (j key).
To make sure there are no current selections, choose Select > Deselect (Cmd/d (PC-Ctrl/d)).
Using the Patch tool, draw a marquee around the area to repair.
Click inside the selection and drag the selection to define the source for the repair.
You can access the Healing Brush tool by pressing the j key. By holding down the Shift key and pressing j multiple times, you can cycle through the multiple tools in the Patch tool set.
Working with Edges
When using the Patch tool on an image border, it works best to sample the source area along the same edge.
