How to Add an Emboss Layer Style in Photoshop
Layer Emboss allows you to create a 3D look to a flat document. The effect is applied to all the elements on a layer.
Open a new document in Photoshop (File > New). Set the size to 500 pixels by 500 pixels at 72 ppi. Set Background Contents to White.
Select the Text tool, click the workspace and add some text. Set the Text Color to a non-white color.
Select the Text layer in the Layers palette and choose Layer > Layer Style > Bevel and Emboss.
Notice that the Bevel and Emboss heading is Bold and has a checkbox. Selecting any of the heading names will change the effect dialog box on the right.
The Structure section offers multiple Styles and Techniques.
You can also control the Depth, Direction, Size and Soften amount.
Lighting is controlled in the Shading section. You can set the light direction, highlights and shadows. Click OK to accept your settings.
Copy/Paste Layer Styles
To duplicate a layer style, select the source style layer, choose Layer > Layer Style > Copy. Select the target layer and choose Layer > Layer Style > Paste.
Editing Emboss Settings
