How to Create a Panoramic Image in Photoshop

A panoramic image starts as a series of images, either handheld or shot on a tripod. The images are opened in Photoshop and stitched together to form a much larger composite.

Step One

Take a series of images. Overlap at least 1/3 as you rotate or pan to capture the next shot. Try rotating the camera to the portrait position for taller images.

Step Two

In Photoshop, choose File > Automate > Photomerge....

Step Three

In the dialog box, select Use Files and press the Browse button to navigate to your images.

Step Four

To select your images, Cmd (PC-Ctrl) click each of the images in the sequence. Press Open.

Step Five

There are six Layout options to choose from. Select Auto and click OK.

Step Six

Photoshop calculates, aligns and merges. The stitched image appears. The Layer palette contains several image layers and layer masks.

Step Seven

Using the Rectangular Marquee tool, drag a rectangular selection that frames the image. Choose Image > Crop.

Photomerge Layouts

There are six layout options in Photomerge. Try stitching your images with each of the layouts to determine which one works best for you. career skills
