Using the Filter Gallery
Photoshop CS6 Tutorial
How to Use the Photoshop Filter Gallery
The Filter Gallery is loaded with several categories and filters. You can apply the filters to the entire image or just to selected areas.
Once you are in the Filter Gallery, you can add one filter or multiple filters at the same time.
Open an image in Photoshop (File > Open).
Press Cmd/j (PC - Ctrl/j) to duplicate the Background layer.
With the upper layer selected in the Layers panel, choose Filter > Filter Gallery.
The gallery has several filter categories. To view the filters within a category, click the category triangle.
To add a filter, click the filter and adjust the settings in the Filter panel.
To add a second filter, click the Add New Effect Layer icon at the bottom of the panel. The new layer can be set to another filter by choosing a new filter. The image is now affected by both filters.
You can reorder the filters by dragging them up or down the panel.
Once you are satisfied with your settings, click OK and your settings are applied.
